Michigan is one of the greatest cycling states in the U.S.. Some say the reason for that is epic races like Cone Azalia and TOKV, a large amount of talented racers, and a vast armada of dedicated race teams. If you ask me, I'll tell you that the person we have to thank is Joe.
Joe Lekovish is the treasurer of the Midwest Cycling Group, head of the Michigan Bicycle Racing Association, an accomplished race promoter, and a darn good race announcer. To add to that, he's put up some fairly decent results while racing. His overall resume is shocking considered that he's been around the race scene for only seven years.
Knowledgeable, experienced, yet enthusiastic is how I would describe Joe. He possesses a vast wealth of cycling knowledge, much to my envy. If anything happens in pro or domestic cycling, Joe knows it. I would be afraid to go up against him in cycling trivia.
He's is the heart and soul of the Michigan Scene. His sweat and blood make the racing community what it is today. He is a tireless worker, never refusing an opportunity to promote yet ANOTHER race. The publicity he gives to races is just incredible. With each post he puts on the racing forum, Lekovish never grows tired of doing what he does. I think an intrinsic love for the sport keeps him going. He truly does love it enough to sacrifice his convenience for it.
It inspires me.
As I said before, we cyclists owe a lot to Joe Lekovish. He has given so much to Michigan Cycling.
It's about time he's given the respect he deserves.
